Review: Gathering Blue
Gathering Blue

At first I wasn't a huge fan of this novel, but it grew on me. In fact, I found myself thinking about it a lot after I finished. And I typically find that to be a good indication of my feelings about a book--if it stays with me for days or weeks after I read it, it obviously impacted me.
This is the second book in Lois Lowry's "The Giver Quartet." It's not really a "sequel" in the traditional sense but it is set in the same world as The Giver. And it has a couple of common themes--another community seemingly isolated in this alternate world with young characters being forced into roles they may not want, but the society needs them to fill.
I think the biggest reason I thought I didn't like it as much at first is that I kind of kept looking for connections to The Giver. I think if I had just read it as a stand-alone I may have enjoyed it more? I'm also curious what the next books will bring and if in hindsight I will have even more appreciation for it.
My review of The Giver is here.
