- Dad’s favorite thing to do with you: Reading--especially E reading to daddy.
- What is one thing you want for your birthday: The Frozen book (It's a book that comes with a map of Arendale and little figurines of all the characters. She's been wanting it forever.)
- How are you celebrating your birthday this year: Presents!
I said this last year, but the sentiment remains: E keeps me on my toes. She asks a lot of questions and remembers everything. For example, she asked what "ahem" means. I told her some people use it when trying to get the attention of other people. She then started using it non-stop. In a very snotty way. "AHEM, Mommy! I need your attention!"
She lets her opinion known. She and B were singing the Smurfs song and Marc and I were slowly going insane ("lalalalalala la lalalala"). Marc mumbled under his breath something about remembering why he doesn't like the Smurfs. E heard him and replied, rather sharply, "You've got to be kidding me, you don't like the Smurfs?!"
E prefers female singers. Whenever we are listening to music she always either says "This is a girl, yay!" or "Oh. This is a boy. Maybe a girl will be next." And sometimes she doesn't know. I had The Beatles on and she asked if they were boys or girls. I said boys and she looked at the picture and said, "No, that one is a girl." So John Lennon is a girl according to her and that makes The Beatles acceptable. Whatever it takes.
Some other quick hits:
She referred to me as a "good cookie" meaning a good cook.
When talking about tall, medium, small she said, "Daddy is tallest, I'm meatiest and Brandon is smallest."
While singing "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" instead of repeating the line "in dreams you will lose your heartache" she sang "in dreams you will lose your heartbeat..." I quickly corrected that one.
One afternoon she turned to me and said "Your eyes don't look early anymore." Apparently the coffee all morning did it's job.
As she was quickly paging through a book, I asked her what she was doing. She responded with, "I'm just fast-forwarding to the story I want."
She asks very interesting questions. For example, "Daddy, when you had hair did you have a different voice?"
She can get around anything. "I'm not picking my nose, I'm just getting something off it."
She quickly realized that adding just a couple of words makes any sentence polite. "Get outta here, Brandon!" Me: "E, that's rude. We don't yell and say mean things like that." E: "Please may you get outta here!"
She's wise beyond her years. She once told me, "You know what's better than a rock collection? A jewelry collection." She also told me that "It's the simple things in life that make you feel better." I later found out that is from a Band-Aid commercial. Well done, Band-Aid. You win.
I'm proud of the girl my baby has become. If I wasn't sure she was ready for Kindergarten and the world in general before, I am now. Because she said these two things recently.
"When I grow up I can be a doctor. Or a fairy godmother. Or a princess. I can be anything!" and "Some day I'm going to climb mountains."
And she can. And she will.
I can't wait to see what she becomes.
Happy birthday, baby girl.
