I love social media. My husband would probably change that sentence to read, "I'm obsessed with social media." And he'd be right--but not in a teenage "I need to document every moment of my life" kind of way. I love the connectivity of social media as a stay-at-home mom. And while I have accounts on multiple sites, I use them very differently.
I use Facebook because everybody does. It's not necessarily my favorite platform, but it's the easiest. From a fan page/business page standpoint, it's not as easy to connect with fans. Facebook doesn't show all my posts to people who like my page--they base who they show items to based on the percentage of people who are actually interacting with my page--liking, commenting, or sharing posts. So while it's the platform that everyone's on, I don't feel like I'm able to connect with the most people. Which is why I branched out to other social platforms.
When Google+ first came out I had high hopes that it would become the norm and replace Facebook. And it still might, someday, but it's not doing so anytime soon. All the things that drive me crazy about Facebook are not only NOT an issue on Google+ but are the things I like the most about this platform. Right now it's hard because not a lot of people are on it or even understand it. To be honest, I'm still learning, too. But, hopefully more will join and we can learn together.
My favorite platform is Twitter. I love how quickly and easily I can interact with so many people. I love how easy it is to share content I like. I love how I can organize all the people I follow into lists (I'll have a post about that soon--a great tool to use to manage your Twitter account so it's not so overwhelming). And I love how I have "met" so many inspiring, supportive, helpful, and informative people on this site.
Instagram is great because I'm a visual person and with my Stella & Dot business it makes sense to show how I wear the accessories for my clients to see. Instead of explaining how an "arm party" can look, I show it. When a new line comes out it's especially nice because I not only show what pieces I got, but how I styled them--alone and with my older pieces.
Pinterest is such a fun site. I wrote about my obsession with the site awhile back here. I am constantly inspired by the content I find. I'm always discovering new blogs to visit, new DIY projects to try, home decor ideas, recipes I'll probably never make but like to pretend I will, books to read, and fashion inspiration.
Do you have a favorite social media platform? Or do you stay away from them all?
