In my quest for a simpler life, I've been doing a lot of decluttering in my physical space. This has transferred over into my digital world, with a big emphasis on social media.

In the final installment of this series, let's look at ways to organize your feed so it's not so overwhelming and how to find people to follow.

Now that you've been thrown into the Twitterverse, all you see are 3 sentence (or less) "tweets" comprised of strange combos of letters like RT or MT or DM or FF or words/statements that start with the # symbol. What the heck language is this?

Twitter can be confusing at first. The first time I logged in I didn't understand half of what I was seeing, had difficulty deciphering abbreviations and codes, and couldn't figure out how to "follow" people I wanted (or even find them).

I love accessories. Necklaces, bracelets, bags, scarves...all of it. And as a stylist for Stella & Dot, I have a lot of jewelry and every couple of months I get new stuff--it's a win/win relationship. One of the first things I got when I signed up to be a stylist was a charm necklace--one that I put together with charms that had meaning for me. I loved the personalized feature of this--me creating my own necklace with my story.
Now Stella & Dot has entered a whole new area of personalization--engravable jewelry! Talk about individualized jewelry! There are so many options and ways to make it unique to you and your story. From monograms or important dates to significant words and numbers, you can do so much.
Monograms, initials, names, and dates (birthdays, anniversaries) have been the most popular choices. But I love some of the other creative ideas stylists and clients have come up with. For example, our VP of training climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro and so she got a dog tag with the date she reached the summit and one that says "Kili;" several stylists put their favorite Bible verses on a necklace (ie: Jer 29.11); a first-time marathoner put 26.2 on hers; a cancer survivor inscribed "survivor" on her necklace. So many options to tell your unique story.
When I ordered my samples I decided to do one monogram (S for Sara; M for Mutchler; and M for Marc--my husband) and a fun one. As you all know I love social media. If you don't, check this out. And this. Love might not be the best word...perhaps more like obsessed. Regardless, I wondered how I could incorporate my love for all things social onto a personalized message for a necklace. First I thought of my user name for all platforms (@StylistSaraMN) but that's too long. One symbol we have is the hashtag (#) and because of my love of Instagram and Twitter (where that symbol is used excessively) I thought a fun option would be to use one of my favorite hashtags... #selfie.
So, a sentimental monogram and a fun hashtag necklace. Both personalized just for me. What's your story?

Social Faux Pas
Sometimes I wonder if it's necessary to have an opinion on everything. And to make sure that opinion is heard by anyone within earshot (and with social media, that's far).
I also wonder if everyone's first reaction to things is to be mean.
I'm opinionated. And I've had times when I rant a little (a lot?). Especially things involving women and children.
But I'm not talking about the big things. I'm talking about the little things. The things that are merely annoyances and really don't warrant outright anger and hostility.
I recently posted something on Facebook. Something little, something I was proud of. I then watched as a friend of a friend posted about the stupidity of that accomplishment on our mutual friend's page. It was done in an indirect way, my name was never mentioned, but the specifics of the rant could not be denied. I'm sure this person didn't think I...someone who he/she had never met and is not friends with...would see it, but lovely Facebook popped that little conversation right in my News Feed (thanks FB, I can't find the things I'm looking for but so grateful I got to see that conversation).
I wasn't upset about what I saw (well, I wasn't happy either) but it made me think.
Why is it our first reaction to be mean? To judge?
Why are minor annoyances broadcasted as though they are major problems with humanity?
I've said this before and I'll say it again, I'm not perfect. But I try to at least be nice.
Perhaps I'll leave with one piece of advice. If you are going to mean about someone maybe do it in a more private way than social media.
Or maybe just don't .
Thanks for letting me rant.

#selfie
Am I 16 or 36?
Why do I ask? Because I've become a #selfie pro (I can't even type that word without a hashtag, probably another example of why I may have the emotional age of 16).
Every time I stop to take a selfie, my husband rolls his eyes and asks that question. In his defense, 9 out of 10 times when I'm trying to "sneak" in a selfie, we're late getting somewhere. So his eye rolling may have more to do with the timing than the actual act. But I could be wrong.
To be clear, I'm not taking selfies all the time and there's always a business purpose to my shots: what better way to sell jewelry than to show it in use? However, I fear the more I justify, the guiltier I sound.
So, no justifying. I'll just embrace my #selfie obsession. And leave you with a few of my favorites--and a couple that you can find on the Stella & Dot website (in their "Style on the Street" section). At least they appreciate my efforts.
Signature Hoops, Christina Link Necklace, Somervell Necklace & Mae Necklace
Palm Springs Scarf (Navy Stripe Elephant), Mallorca Pendant, Renegade Cluster Bracelet, Neeya Bracelet, Paloma Stacked Rings & La Totale Large (Navy & Red Medallion)
Nancy Studs, Palm Springs Scarf (Turquoise Ikat), On the Mark Necklace & Tree of Life Necklace (retired, other favorites here and here)
Anyone out there as obsessed with selfies as I am? I hope I'm not alone. Although, judging from my feed on Instagram, I don't think I am.
